Murder Mystery Weekend Returns to Port Orchard

PREPARE TO BE BOARDED!
Murder Mystery Weekend returns to Port Orchard for the fourth year--created for sleuths, mystery aficionados and especially pirate ‘wanna-be’s’-- friendly activity for all ages September 12th and 13th !

Port Orchard, WA – August 7, 2009. On September 12th and 13th the town of Port Orchard WA on the shores of Puget Sound, will be overrun with pirates and pirate “wanna-be’s” for the 4th Annual Murder Mystery Weekend.
For a few dollars adults, children, families and friends can purchase a Murder Mystery packet then stroll through town--one day or both--searching for clues, interviewing the suspects-- a cast of 16 costumed characters, investigate crime scenes and make their best “who-dunnit” guess as to who committed the dastardly deed. From those correct guesses a winner will be drawn to receive a ‘treasure-trove’ of prizes. Need not be present to win.

Prepare to be Boarded!! The two day event will also feature the B.O.O.M. Pirates. Sail the seven seas with the notorious Pirates of the "Emerald Rose". These freedom loving outcasts recreate "The Golden Age of Piracy" offering an actual pirate encampment over the weekend, a signature cannon show, and they will be singing sea shanty songs and conducting other pirate shenanigans all weekend long! Sponsored by the Port Orchard Concerts on the Bay Committee.
Visitors can also enjoy or participate in a Pirate Landlubber Dinghy Derby Race. The race takes place on Sat. Sept. 12th at 12:30am,. Think of it as a bed race or soap box derby race, but with your derby ‘car’ decorated or made to look like a pirate dinghy, constructed out of what-ever you want, how-ever you want. And you race your pirate dinghy derby on land. Teams are four people, one must be inside driving, the other three pushing. Registration is $25 a team. Put your team together, if you are the captain you don’t have to push! Trophies are awarded for Best Decorated Pirate Dinghy, and a 1st, 2nd and 3rd place will be awarded for the race winners in several categories. Rules for the race and the registration form can be found at www.portorchard.com .The two day event also features an annual favorite event: an adults, kids AND pets Pirate Costume Contest, adults on Sat. at 1pm and kids and pets on Sun. at 12:30pm. There is a two day Vendor Marketfaire, as well as the Port Orchard Farmers Market on Saturday. On Saturday evening the featured attraction is a ‘Pirate Ball’ at MoonDogs, Too-- all you can handle debauchery plus dinner fit for a pirate and his wenches, followed by live music and dancing., Costumes encouraged but not required. Tickets for the Pirate Ball are $15 for adults and $7 for children and can be purchased through the Chamber at 360-876-3505. Sunday morning from 9am-11am there is a Pancake Breakfast (pancakes are a Pirate’s favorite!) sponsored by the Port Orchard VFW.

Children activities abound with a special showing of the classic movie “The Goonies” at 2pm both days, Pirate Storytime for ages 3-5 at the library, a children’s bouncer sponsored by American Family Insurance/Barry Doll Agency and fight-a-pirate lessons and miniature boat races, coordinated by the Rogues & Wenches.
All of the activities and events take place along Bay St. in downtown and at the Marina Waterfront Park. The Port Orchard ‘foot ferry’ will operate on Sun. Sept. 13th between Port Orchard and Bremerton. The Murder Mystery Weekend is coordinated by the Port Orchard Chamber of Commerce. Major Sponsor is Dana’s Heating, Inc. A complete schedule of the weekend’s events and sponsors can be found at www.portorchard.com or call 360-876-3505. Orchard Theater showtimes beginning JUNE 20th!!

Date: Mon, 16 Jun 2008 16:16:37 -0700
Hi folks!
Young At Heart and The Goonies end Thursday!
Here are the showtimes……….
Young At Heart 2:30 and 7:10
The Goonies 4:50

Starts Friday!!
The She Found Me R
Directed by Helen Hunt
Starring Helen Hunt, Bette Midler, Colin Firth, Matthew Broderick, Ben Shankman
Friday, June 20th thru Sunday, June 22nd 12:10 2:30 4:50 7:10

Monday, June 23rd thru Thursday, June 26th 2:30 4:50 7:10

The move from actor to director can be a difficult one, but actress Helen Hunt makes the transition seem effortless with THEN SHE FOUND ME. Hunt, who also produced and co wrote the film, plays April Epner, a down-on-her-luck schoolteacher who longs to have a child. April's chances of bringing a baby into the world are diminished when her husband, Ben (Matthew Broderick), leaves her, and more bad news follows when her adoptive mother dies. The beleaguered April subsequently forms an unexpected bond with her real mother, the overbearing TV host Bernice (Bette Midler), and takes tentative steps towards motherhood with a new man in her life, the bumbling Frank (Colin Firth). Hunt's film, which is based on the novel of the same name by Elinor Lipman, is likely to win over fans of classic rom-coms such as WHEN HARRY MET SALLY and YOU'VE GOT MAIL. At its heart the film poses some thoughtful observations on what a late-30s woman goes through when she is facing a possibly childless future. But Hunt also stirs some generous scoops of humor into the plot, providing light relief from her central character's plight, and also demonstrating her range as a writer/director. The cast members are uniformly excellent throughout, with Firth and Hunt giving strong performances that are helped along by a supporting cast that provides most of the comic relief. Hunt even finds time to provide a small role for the writer Salman Rushdie, who plays a doctor.

In a world of six billion people, it only takes one to change your life. In actor and filmmaker Tom McCarthy’s follow-up to his award winning directorial debut The Station Agent, Richard Jenkins (Six Feet Under) stars as a disillusioned Connecticut economics professor whose life is transformed by a chance encounter in New York City. Sixty-two-year-old Walter Vale (Jenkins) is sleepwalking through his life. Having lost his passion for teaching and writing, he fills the void by unsuccessfully trying to learn to play classical piano. When his college sends him to Manhattan to attend a conference, Walter is surprised to find a young couple has taken up residence in his apartment. Victims of a real estate scam, Tarek (Haaz Sleiman), a Syrian man, and Zainab (Danai Gurira), his Senegalese girlfriend, have nowhere else to go. In the first of a series of tests of the heart, Walter reluctantly allows the couple to stay with him. Touched by his kindness, Tarek, a talented musician, insists on teaching the aging academic to play the African drum. The instrument’s exuberant rhythms revitalize Walter’s faltering spirit and open his eyes to a vibrant world of local jazz clubs and Central Park drum circles. As the friendship between the two men deepens, the differences in culture, age and temperament fall away. After being stopped by police in the subway, Tarek is arrested as an undocumented citizen and held for deportation. As his situation turns desperate, Walter finds himself compelled to help his new friend with a passion he thought he had long ago lost. When Tarek’s beautiful mother Mouna (Hiam Abbass) arrives unexpectedly in search of her son, the professor’s personal commitment develops into an unlikely romance. And it’s through these new found connections with these virtual strangers that Walter is awakened to a new world and a new life.

Opening This Friday!! 3 Showings ONLY!!
Blade Runner: The Final Cut R
Starring Harrison Ford, Rutger Hauer, Sean Young, Daryl Hannah, Edward James Olmos
Directed by Ridley Scott
Friday, June 20th thru Sunday, June 22nd 9:10

Twenty-five years after the initial release of BLADE RUNNER, director Ridley Scott uses archival footage to re-create his original vision for the sci-fi classic. Based on a story by Philip K. Dick, the film is set in Los Angeles in 2019. Earth has become a polluted and miserable dystopia, and many people have fled to live "Off World" on other planets. This dreary vision of the future features replicants: lifelike robots built as slaves for human use. When a replicant escapes his owner, a "blade runner" is called in to hunt him down and kill him. Enter Harrison Ford as the retired blade runner Rick Deckard. He is pulled out of retirement to help catch four escaped replicants: Batty (Rutger Hauer), Leon (Brion James), Pris (Darryl Hannah), and Zhora (Joanna Cassidy.) Despite his distaste for the job, Deckard is soon hot on their heels, tracking them down one by one through the over-crowded, crumbling city streets. In the midst of his hunt, Deckard becomes involved with a beautiful replicant named Rachael (Sean Young). Rachel has fled her owner, and Deckard rightfully should kill her. However, the two fall in love, and after some startling revelations, they are both soon on the run from the very authorities that once employed Deckard. This final cut is a bleaker, more cynical version of an already dark film, which might explain why the studio insisted on a softer, more optimistic ending when it was first released. While some superfans might take issue with some of the revelatory new twists, they will no doubt delight in the quality of the digital restoration. The special effects were already impressive for 1982, but these new touch-ups give them a look that appears just as sharp and imaginative as the sci-fi films of today.
