Kitsap Volkssporters : Harper/Southworth

Kitsap Volkssporters are holding a walking event on Saturday, May 31 in the Harper/Southworth area. Registration will run from (9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., and walkers must finish by 4:00. The main start point will be at the park and ride adjacent to the Harper Church at 10384 Sedgwick Road SE, Port Orchard. There will be a 6K (3.75 miles) walk and a 10K (6.2 miles). The latter will have an additional 2K option, a loop along beautiful Cornell Drive. There will also be a start point near the Southworth ferry for walk-on passengers. From there walkers will be able to do the same 10/12K walk or a 5K (3.1 mile) walk.
The routes will be on the shoulders along county roadways, through Harper Park and along the waterfront. There are great views of Seattle skyline, Blake Island and Puget Sound. Suitable for strollers with care, use of wheelchairs not advised. Pets OK on leash. Restrooms are available at Harper Park and at Harper Pier.
Participation in most IVV/AVA Sanctioned Volkssporting Events is free to all participants. However, everyone, including children, must register, carry and return a start card upon completion of the event. National Physical Fitness & Sports Month patches will be available for $3 while supplies last. IVV/AVA credit only is $3.
Volkssport, “Sport of the People,” is an adventure in health, recreation, fellowship and fun. It provides recreation and fitness opportunities to people of all ages and abilities. This event enables you to earn recognition while participating in a non-competitive sport. Our marked course is a great family activity.
