Collective Visions Gallery – December Featured Artists
Main Gallery; Jackie Bush-Turner, Pastel Artist: ”Impressions of Places – Landscapes 2008”
Jackie new images range from the subject she is best known for, the wetlands, to new horizons from Kauai, and a totally new subject for her, cows! While exploring new subjects, Jackie has also explored new surfaces. Her new work is on pastel board, sealed and coated with a clay mixture that allows her to build color layers and still maintain the integrity of the surface. Jackie explores a range of “Impressions of Places” – capturing the mood and essence with color and light.
Boardroom Gallery:
Michael Kilgore's steel and ceramic sculpture, 2D work and American shibui ceramics. The forge-formed welded sculptures are set within an individual aesthetic direction, grounded in the traditions of contemporary/modern steel spatial expression. Aesthetic studies and working in shipyards, sheet metal shops, ironworks (connector), refractory plants, machine shops, and foundries have contributed to the visual experience of these forms. The Ceramic works employ a broad range of direct forming and altering clay techniques and salt/wood firing processes toward a rustic aesthetic that compliments folk craft traditions. These works are contemporary American interpretations of forms stemming from an honest appreciation of Japanese aesthetic philosophies of wabi sabi and shibui. The 2D works thread personal spatial aesthetic exploration and thought processes that factor the conceptual cross roads to taken. These works are an effort to produce works exhibiting the physical embodiment and dynamics of visual-tactile humanistic experience. Perhaps American Shibui could be a term applied to all of these works.Free Concert:
