WHITE WASHING YELLOW FACES

Kitsap County Historical Society invites you to a First Friday Art Walk Lecture Friday, September 5, 2008

WHITE WASHING YELLOW FACES

During World War II the U.S. military forcibly removed 276 men, women, and children of Japanese ancestry from Bainbridge Island under Franklin Roosevelt’s Executive Order 9066. Bainbridge Island’s Japanese American residents were the first in the nation to be relocated to one of 10 inland prison camps.

Dr. Frank Yoshikazu Kitamoto, DDS, was one of those residents. Dr. Kitamoto will share historical photos and personal stories of the islands’ Americans of Japanese descent, from 1883 to the present.
