Stillwaters' May Classes
Hello there!
Our Rain Garden Class has had to be postponed to late May, due to illness of the presenter (who is on the mend and will be fine very soon!). Also, we had to re-schedule the Toxins class for June 26. And our "Menu for the Future" Sustainability Discussion Class is now full, but let us know if you want to be on the list for the next class, probably in the Fall or next Winter.
So, here's the list of Stillwaters' classes coming up in May, plus a couple other very interesting events:
NW GREEN HOME PRIMER -- Thursday, May 8 -- 7:30 pm -- at Eagle Harbor Books in Winslow. Kathleen O'Brien, an award-winning sustainable designer, is presenting information from her book, which enables all of us - homeowners and builders - to make green-home decisions on a budget. She's a great resource in Kitsap, and has very practical ideas. This is a great opportunity to benefit from her knowledge for free!
SHADE GROWN COFFEE: Learn, Taste, Act -- Saturday, May 10 -- 1-3 pm -- at Grounds for Change (15773 George Lane, Poulsbo). This is a free event, sponsored by Kitsap Audubon, Seattle Audubon & Grounds for Change. You can sample shade-grown coffee, play trivia games with prizes, and learn more about shade coffee movement and how to get involved. Visit www.shadecoffee.org for details.
RAIN BARREL WORKSHOP -- Sat, May 17 -- 10 - noon -- at Stillwaters. Create your own rain barrel(s) for water conservation! Learn more about the best ways to install a barrel and make the best use of it. You get a discount on the cost of the barrel and can make extras for yourself, also at a discount. Cost: $45 for making one barrel, $40 for each additional barrel. Pre-register by return email or call 360-297-2876.
NATIVE PLANT SALE -- Sat, May 17 -- 9:30am - 12:30pm -- at Stillwaters. Our Native Plant Nursery will be open for sales on the same day as the Rain Barrel Workshop. Stop by for a good time to browse & buy! All proceeds benefit Stillwaters' programs. For a (fairly) complete plant listing, visit our website at www.stillwatersenvironmentalcenter.org.
RAIN GARDENS IN YOUR LANDSCAPE -- Sat, May 31 -- 9:30am - 12:30pm -- at Stillwaters. Learn how to design & install a rain garden from Kinley Deller of King County Solid Waste Division (& Stillwaters Board member). Rain gardens collect, absorb and filter stormwater runoff from pervious surfaces, and can be shaped to fit your yard. You get an excellent handbook with the class to help you build your own. Cost is $30/person or $45/household. Pre-register by return email or call 360-297-2876.
COMPOST WITH CLASS -- Also on Sat, May 31 -- 2 - 4 pm -- at Stillwaters. Basics of home composting for yard and food waste. Participants are eligible to win a Cascadia Composter. The instructor is Bobbie Morgan from the Natural Landscapes Project. Cost is a suggested $10 donation. Pre-register by return email or call 360-297-2876.
Hope to see you in May!
