Bainbridge Performing Arts (BPA) presents
Declassified Chamber Concert ~ Music from Britain and America
Sunday, June 8 @ 3:00 p.m. @ BPA
BPA’s June Declassified concert offers a whole afternoon of British and American music of the 20th century. The program starts with the Elgar Quintet for Piano and Strings of 1917 with its echoes of the late-Romantic German and Austrian symphonists, its moments of nostalgia and the sharp individualism of Edwardian England’s composer laureate. It ends with the American Irving Fine’s Partita for Woodwind Quintet of 1948. In between there are short selections by Frank Bridge, Benjamin Britten’s teacher, and by Louis Gottschalk, Frederick Rzewski and Ned Rorem.
The performers include several talented young musicians—Catherine Edwards, Lia Hardy, Donna Adele Horning, Amelia Keyser-Gibson and Laetitia Lehman-Pearsall—as well as mezzo-soprano Barbara Hume, hornist Scott Avenell and bassoonist Brian Rolette making their first appearances in BPA’s chamber-music series. Select musical works are performed against a multimedia backdrop conceived by BPA’s Artistic Director Steven Fogell, while others are co-produced in part by students in the video and animation classes at West Sound Academy.
BPA’s June Declassified concert takes place Sunday, June 8 at 3:00 p.m. Tickets, $10 per person, may be purchased by phone at 206.842.8569 or in person at BPA, 200 Madison Avenue North, Bainbridge Island. BPA Box Office hours are 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Tuesday through Friday, and one hour prior to each performance. The concert is suitable for music lovers of all ages.
