Writers' Roundtable May 20: Tales from Mexico
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Writers' Roundtable topic: "How do we render other people's stories? Tales from Mexico" with nonfiction author, editor, and creative writing teacher Wendy Call. Roundtable takes place Tuesday, May 20, from 7:00-8:00 p.m. at the Bainbridge Public Library, 1270 Madison Avenue N. Free. Event put on by Field's End, a writers' community, www.fieldsend.org . Field's End is an affiliate of the nonprofit Bainbridge Public Library, and is supported in part by the Bainbridge Island Arts and Humanities Fund and the City of Bainbridge Island.
Raise the Roof: Cultural Facilities Conversations, May 20, June 3
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~The Bainbridge Island Arts and Humanities Council announces a series of conversations about planning, funding, building, and running community based facilities. Upcoming topics are: Structures and Partnerships (May 20), and Sustainability: Maintenance and Operations (June 3). These sessions are part of an ongoing conversation about capital facilities, which will continue in the fall with sessions on community engagement, capital campaigns, and building. All three spring sessions take place at Bainbridge Performing Arts, 200 Madison Avenue North, 8:45am-11am. No admission charge. RSVP required to attend (Email Janice Shaw: Janices@artshum.org).

The Secret Garden Musical at BPA May 16-18, 23-25
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Bainbridge Performing Arts presents the musical "The Secret Garden," May 16-18 and May 23-25: Fridays and Saturdays at 7:00 p.m., Sundays at 3:00 p.m. The Secret Garden, based on the novel by Frances Hodgson Burnett, follows Mary Lennox as she brings to life not only a garden but also those who surround her. The musical's book & lyrics are by Marsha Norman, music by Lucy Simon, directed by Teresa Thuman; set designs inspired by Island artists Little and Lewis. Beyond the Script: The Artist as GardenerTerry Moyemont from Mesogeo Gardens leads BPA's Beyond the Script ~ "The Artist as Gardener," on May 18, from 1:30 - 2:30 p.m., immediately preceding the 3:00 p.m. performance. The 23-voice Glee Club will perform, under the direction of Donna M. The Musicians of Bremen at the Jewel Box Theatre May 31
