Bainbridge Performing Arts (BPA) presents The EDGE Improv
Saturday, May 3 @ 7:30 p.m.
Each month at BPA, Ken Ballenger directs a troupe of multi-talented performers in a totally improvised evening of comedy and song, all from audience suggestions. Whether it’s dubbing a foreign film, singing in the style of Sondheim, or doing a made-up scene as if Shakespeare had written it, The EDGE has had audiences laughing and cheering for more than thirteen years. Cathy Nickum extols the zany antics of The EDGE, saying, “the troupe regales audience members with on-the-spot comedy that just can’t be duplicated in any rehearsed performance.”
The EDGE began on Bainbridge Island with co-founders John Ellis and Frank Buxton among the players. Ken Ballenger was enlisted to direct, and he recruited established Improv performers Susan MacPherson, Matt Whitman and Cynthia Lair. Dr. Andrew Shields came on board as keyboard wizard. Gary Schwartz, a recognized teacher and practitioner of Improv joined up too, along with the popular Seattle theatre actress and singer, Bhama Roget. Orla McGovern hails from Ireland and has practiced Improv on both sides of the pond. The newest member of The EDGE is Chris Soldevilla. The troupe also frequently enjoys guest appearances by the likes of Matt Smith, a stellar performer and teacher of Improv.
The EDGE Improv appears at BPA on Saturday, May 3 at 7:30 p.m. Tickets, $15 for adults, and $10 for seniors, military, and youth, may be purchased online at www.BainbridgePerformingArts.org, by phone at 206.842.8569 or in person at BPA, 200 Madison Avenue North, Bainbridge Island. BPA Box Office hours are 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Tuesday through Friday, and one hour prior to each performance. The performance has one 15 minute intermission and is suitable for the whole family.
Bainbridge Performing Arts extends special thanks to its sponsors: 2007 - 2008 Season Media Sponsor Bainbridge Island Review, and The EDGE Presenting Sponsor The Harbour Public House. BPA is supported, in part, by the Bainbridge Island Arts and Humanities Council, the City of Bainbridge Island, and by a two-year Organizational Support Program grant from the Washington State Arts Commission.
