Gig Harbor Garden Tour Celebrates Eleventh Anniversary
March 2008, Gig Harbor Wash; Beautiful Gig Harbor gardens will be celebrated the weekend of June 28 & 29 in honor of the eleventh annual Gig Harbor Garden Tour. The annual two-day event features private gardens, lectures and more on Saturday and Sunday. This year 8 private homes will be featured on the tour with garden themes including perennial, waterfront, historic and a farm gardens.
Special guest lecturer for 2008 is Ciscoe Morris, who will present at the beautiful Rosedale Gardens as part of the overall event. Featured on KING5 TV, ‘Gardening with Ciscoe with KING 5’s Meeghan Black’, Ciscoe can be seen every weekend on the KING 5 ‘Morning News’ and on the KING 5 ‘Noon News’ on Tuesdays and Thursdays. His half-hour long ‘Gardening with Ciscoe’ with co-star Meeghan Black, can be seen every Saturday on KING 5. In addition, ‘Gardening with Ciscoe Live’ can be seen every Friday night on the Northwest Cable News Network. Ciscoe also makes regular appearances on the 'Gardening by the Yard' show on the Home and Garden cable network. His humorous and informational radio call-in show, ‘Gardening with Ciscoe’, can be heard every Saturday morning on 710 KIRO, beginning at 10:00 AM. In addition, Ciscoe has co-authored two books.
His newest book ‘Ask Ciscoe’ made its debut in late 2006 and is among the top selling garden books nationwide. You can read Ciscoe’s ‘To Do’ column every week in the Saturday Gardening Section in the Seattle P-I. Ciscoe’s home garden was featured in the October/November 1999 issue of ‘Seattle Homes and Lifestyle. Despite all of that, Ciscoe regularly leads garden tours to countries all over the world. His last exciting tour was to South Africa in October of 2007.
In the past eleven years the Gig Harbor Garden Tour has grown and become one of the regions best known tours – providing peeks into the private gardens of Gig Harbor residents. In 2007 the tour became a two-day event, to accommodate the growing interest.
The Gig Harbor Garden Tour is a tour for literacy, with proceeds benefiting the Peninsula Adult Basic Education Program at the Gig Harbor campus of Tacoma Community College. During the past decade $60K has been raised for local literacy efforts from the tour.
