April 5: The EDGE Improv
“Yoga for your funny bone! Calisthenics for your brain! Cross training for the psyche! Stream of consciousness hilarity for the whole family!” Nothing The EDGE does is scripted – the troupe members are literally making it up as they go along. For more than thirteen years, their zany humor has inspired laughter, cheering and rave reviews.

April 8: Bainbridge Poetry Slam
BPA is transformed into a nightclub, with refreshments and a no-host bar, for the second annual Bainbridge Poetry Slam, where poets perform their work in a competition before judges chosen from the audience. Gutsy poets should be prepared with three original poems that can be read in less than three minutes each. Poets are judged on both the content of the poem and their performance. No props, costumes, or musical instruments allowed. Cash prizes, plus a free drink for all competitors!

April 11 – 13: Louise Mills Presents: What is This Thing Called Love? ~ A Musical Revue
Jazz musicians and singers croon, strut, and serenade on a set loosely based on a fictional Parisian night club called, “Chez Louise.” Local artists don tuxedoes and period gowns mined from Louise Mills’ extensive collection of vintage fashions to perform favorite love songs ranging from show tunes to jazz standards. Presented by one of BPA’s original co-founders, this musical revue is designed and stage directed by Michele McCrackin, with musical direction by Karen Rice. Proceeds benefit Bainbridge Performing Arts.

April 15 – 17: 45 Million Years of Dinosaurs in 45 Minutes
Follow three brave adventurers as they race the clock to learn about 45 million years of dinosaurs in 45 minutes! This fast-paced, comedic exploration of the Cretaceous period of dinosaurs includes facts, figures, and fun! The cast from “The History of the World in 45 Minutes!” Guy Sidora, Luc Rosenthal, and Bonnie Wallace return to lead this prehistoric and hysterical journey.

April 20: Bainbridge Symphony Orchestra & Bainbridge Island Youth Orchestra Collaborate in “A Musical Heritage”
Music Director David Upham shares the podium with Reid Blickenstaff and George Ramsey as the BIYO Sinfonietta joins forces with BSO members on Mascagni’s ravishingly beautiful “Intermezzo” from the opera Cavelleria rusticana. Soloists Brigitte Gingold, violin, and Max Aussendorf, cello, next perform works by Mozart and J. C. Bach, respectively. The Youth Orchestra then performs excerpts from Mozart’s famous serenade, Eine Kleine Nachtmusik, in preparation for the grand finale – all three groups performing side-by-side on stage! It is a celebration of our community not to be missed!

April 26: Christian Swenson Plays "Human Jazz"
Part dance, drama, concert, sacred ritual, and comedy, Christian Swenson’s performances are unclassifiable. Through his improvisation, Swenson fills each moment with surprise. He follows no trail, but bushwhacks, rock hops, and body surfs through the landscape of imagination. Using only body and voice, he draws from a global palette of styles including Indian dance, Balinese drama, scat-singing, mime-morphing, eccentric buffoonery, and Central Aisian throat-singing to take the audience on a one-of-a-kind adventure.

April 27: Declassified Chamber Concert: Dvořák, Kodály & Martinů
Works of three Eastern European masters from the 1890s to the 1930s will be performed by a crowd of Island musicians and their friends, including violinists Justine Jeanotte , Thomas Monk and Patricia Strange; violists Reid Blickenstaff and Peggy Spencer; cellists Marshall Brown, Barbara Deppe and Priscilla Jones; Kate Kralik, flute; Amy Duerr-Day, oboe; Patti Beasley, clarinet; Judy Lawrence, bassoon; Don Warkentin, horn; and pianists Donna Horning and James Quitslund. Select musical works will be performed against a multimedia backdrop created by Northwest College of Art graduate, BPA Graphic Designer, and video artist Sid Arthur .
