Quirky Seagull Festival Celebrates 20th Year in Port Orchard
Port Orchard WA: For twenty years folks have been coming to the small town with the beautiful marina on the shores of Puget Sound to call seagulls! Yes, call seagulls! Saturday, May 3, 2008 will be the 20th Annual Seagull Calling Festival in Port Orchard , WA and you are invited.
This fun and funky event has been featured on KING 5 Evening Magazine and Jay Leno's Tonight Show! Join visitors and locals who register for the seagull calling contest: individually or in teams, in costume or not, as kids or as adults, with cheetos, french fries and bread as bait. Not to mention the judges, who accept bribes, dressed in robes and white wigs--it is all in fun and when the best seagull callers come out on the beach and the seagulls answer back you know you have a winner!
New this year--local restaurants and caterers will participate in a 'Seagull' Wing Cook-off Contest (okay it's really chicken!) and attendees can sample the results. Also expected is a Seagull Art Contest with the masterpieces available for a small price! All this and enjoy the Port Orchard Farmers Market and the music of beach style band "SPF-50".
Registration for the Seagull Calling contest gets underway at 10am with the calling at 11am and the cook-off contest results and band at noon. The event is held at the Port Orchard Marina Waterfront Park in downtown Port Orchard. The event hosted by the Port Orchard Chamber is sponsored by Spot Security/Monitronics International, Neighborly Greetings and Moon Dogs, Too.
