Good eats in Gig Harbor: authentic cuisine at Gateway to India
Gateway to India, a popular Tacoma restaurant for more than a decade, opened a new location in Gig Harbor in November—and business has been steady since day one. Located in the former home of Harbor Rock Café, which closed in 2009, the fine dining restaurant serves authentic Indian food in a fine but comfortable atmosphere and has wonderful service.
The owners, brothers Surinder and CJ Singh, opened their first Gateway to India in Tacoma in 1997. Their longtime fans couldn’t be more excited to finally have a location in Gig Harbor!
The vegetarian-friendly menu features Indian staples such as kebab, tandoori and naan (leavened bread), and caters to people of all levels of spicy-food tolerance. Don’t leave without trying the signature dessert, mango pudding—it’s outstanding! (Hint: This is one time you may not want to share your dessert.)
Those new to Indian cuisine or just can’t get enough of it could try the all-you-can-eat lunch buffet, served from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday and noon to 3 Saturday and Sunday.
Dinner time tends to get very busy, so reservations are strongly recommended, particularly on the weekend.
